UnityAI, a local health care artificial intelligence company founded by three former HCA executives, announced Tuesday that it raised $4 million in its seed funding round.

Company CEO Edmund Jackson formerly served as chief data officer at HCA and worked for Whistler Capital Partners before taking the helm at UnityAI in 2023. He co-founded UnityAI with Cody Hall, former HCA data scientist and Jason Parker, former HCA director of data science who is now serving as UnityAI chief data scientist.

The company looks to “disrupt the traditional hospital bed management paradigm” by introducing technology to hospitals to help them efficiently move patients through their facilities, according to a press release.

The release notes the funding round was led by New York City-based firm Max Ventures. Whistler Capital Partners, a Nashville-based firm focused on health care growth equity, is the largest investor overall, with Nashville Capital Network having also contributed.

In addition, the Nashville office of New York-based Company Ventures contributed to the funding, its first health care investment.

"We are thrilled to have the support of our investors as we embark on this mission to revolutionize hospital flow," Jackson said.

"We believe that high-quality care and highly efficient care are actually the same thing," he added. "Our unique approach will empower hospitals to dissolve complexity to operate more smoothly, efficiently, and ultimately provide better care to patients. This funding will accelerate our efforts to make a significant impact on the health care system."
